Fully booked and was told by hotel that it was canceled

My booking was canceled and I never got a message about this until I arrived at the hotel. They charged me for the stay. They said I would get refunded, but Booking.com has not confirmed this.

Room was booked 3 days in advance. When we got there (after a 12 hour flight), we got told that the room we had booked had already been taken by someone else and were offered a downgrade for the same price. When trying to argue about it, we got told to cancel our booking and no other options were offered to us. Don’t recommend.
